The Du Quoin Street Department last week constructed new sidewalks on both the east and west sides of the picnic pavilion in Keyes City Park to make access to the pavilion fully handicapped ADA compliant.

The new sidewalk on the west side runs from parking on North Division Street all the way up to the pavilion.

The new sidewalk on the east side runs from the diagonal sidewalk that runs from the corner of East Park Street and North Division Street up to the veterans plaza in the center of Keyes Park.

After construction of the new sidewalks, topsoil on either side was leveled, raked and seeded. A layer of straw lines both walks until the new grass takes hold.

The entire park is one of the most popular and well-traveled in Southern Illinois and the pavilion almost weekly hosts family reunions, church events or community events.

There are two such events in the coming days--the 4th annual October Fest this Saturday, October 1 followed by the Du Quoin Police Department family night in Keyes Park on Saturday, October 15.
