Tom (T.J.) Learned passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

Tom was the son of Harold (Lefty) and Rachel Learned. He was born in Christopher, IL on April 26, 1951.

He married Lynda (Piercy) Learned on October 8, 1982.

He is survived by his three daughters: Aleicia Learned of Marion, IL, Erin and husband David Holley of Valley, Alabama, Kristen and husband Robert Tomshack of West Frankfort; three sisters: Barbara and husband Melvin Dixon of BentonBrenda and husband Larry Eubanks of Benton, Melissa Learned and special friend Michelle Leigh of Benton; Grandchildren: Jordyn and Shelbie Learned of Marion, Reese, Reagan and Remy Holley of Valley, Alabama, Hailey and Madison Tomshack of West Frankfort.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Lynda L. (Piercy) Learned, parents Harold (Lefty) and Rachel Learned and his brother, Harold Learned Jr.

He enjoyed cooking, sports, Alabama Football (Roll-Tide), Benton Rangers, S.I. Miners. He coached Benton Girls Softball for 20 years, and Future Ranger Basketball. He was very active with the Grade School PTO while his daughters were growing up. He also enjoyed running. However, the thing he loved most of all was spending time with his grandchildren.

He hopes he hasn’t left anyone out. To his nieces and nephews he loved you all.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at the Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton with Rev. Eddie Paul Davis officiating. Burial was in the Masonic and Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton.

In lieu of Flowers monetary donations will be accepted at the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
