SESSER — Close, but no cigar.

Playing in the championship game for the second consecutive year against the same opponent, the result was the same for Christopher at the Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament.

Woodlawn, 11-1, got a three-point play with less than 30 seconds remaining Wednesday night, pulling out a 69-62 victory over the Bearcats.

Trailing 64-62 in the closing seconds, Woodlawn's Ross Owens intercepted a pass, took the ball down court and scored on the conventional three-point play. It gave the Cardinals their sixth straight S-V Holiday Tourney victory. Owens led all scorers with 23 points. Teammate Brett Harris added 22 points.

Each team had five 3-point baskets, with Owens sinking four for the winners. Young had three for the Bearcats.

Christopher was led by Bradley Young's 30 points. Hunter Wheeler pitched in 10 as the Bearcats fell to 11-2.
