Preceptor Alpha Eta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority met at the home of Linda Searby on the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 9.

Before the meeting, President Johanna Tolbert asked members to stand for a moment of silence in memory of sorority sisters Shelley House, Joyce Deaton, and for Nora Fann, who recently passed away on Jan. 8, 2022.

President Tolbert called the meeting to order. The minutes were read, and the treasurer's report was given. Thank-you notes from Five Star Industries, the Du Quoin Jaycees and Barbara Croessman were read.

The chapter made donations to the Du Quoin Youth Charity Ball and the Du Quoin Food Pantry.

A discussion was held concerning revision of the chapter's traditions and the possibility of holding some of the monthly meetings for 2022-2023 during the daytime. Further actions will be taken at the March meeting.

Members were reminded of the election for officers to be held at the next meeting. Judy Kaufman volunteered to remain as treasurer, and Rose Alongi asked to serve as Ways & Means chairwoman for another year.

Secretary Sharon Childs announced that she would contact the International office and submit information regarding Nora Fann to be included in the Beta Sigma Phi Memory Stitches.

Also, the chapter will hold a memorial ritual for Ruby Hartje, who was a member of Illinois Alpha Tau Masters and was the mother of Barbara Croessman. Sisters from Ruby's chapter will be invited to attend the ritual when a date is set.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Two members provided programs for the evening. Linda Searby presented one program on the benefits of music therapy and another one entitled "Advice from a Cardinal." Sharon Childs gave her program on "Is Dark Chocolate Really Good for You?" and passed around dark chocolate for members to sample.

Following the programs, members exchanged Valentine gifts with their secret sisters. President Tolbert gave each member a Valentine with a tube of Blistex saying, "You're the Balm," and the winter social committee passed out mugs filled with hot chocolate packets, marshmallows and chocolate covered peppermint sticks.

Hostess Linda Searby then served brownies with ice cream to Rose Alongi, Barbara Brock, Sharon Childs, Judy Kaufman, Mary Riggio, Linda Sherman, Joyce Schimpf, Donna Secrist, Kathy Smith, and Johanna Tolbert. Barbara Croessman attended by Zoom.
