Phyllis Winkelman of Steeleville was one of 44 people who donated blood Aug. 21 at the American Red Cross Blood Drive at the American Legion in Chester.

Winkelman, a dental hygienist at Chester Family Dental, has been donating blood for about 25 years and said she rarely misses an opportunity.

At the August drive she donated through the Power Red option, which allows her donation to produce two usable units of blood. Donors using this method are not able to donate again until December.

The August drive had a goal of 44 units and there were 44 individuals who presented to donate.  Those 44 individuals produced a total of 47 usable units of blood (two of the 44 individuals donated via the Power Red method).

The next American Red Cross blood drive at the American Legion in Chester will be from 12:45 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Call (800) RED CROSS to make an appointment.
