Five Du Quoin Middle School band students have been selected to participate in the Illinois Music Educators Association Honor Band.
Joella Patterson (flute), Marcie Dunmyer (clarinet), Aubrey Harris (alto saxophone) Carley Somers (baritone saxophone) and Landen Swiney (tuba) competed against hundreds of students from southern Illinois and the metro east area.
They spent the last two months practicing for the audition. They will spend Saturday, Nov. 18 at SIU Carbondale rehearsing with other selected honor band students. They will perform a concert later that evening.
Being selected for the ILMEA Honor Band is the highest honor a middle school band student can receive.
