'Howl at the Moon' fundraiser comes to SIC Feb. 16
SALINE COUNTY -- Ferrell Hospital and Southeastern Illinois College have partnered for a fundraising event with the world famous Howl at the Moon Dueling Pianos. Concert for a Cause will take place Valentine's Day weekend, Saturday, Feb. 16 in the SIC cafeteria. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for guests to arrive, choose their seats, visit raffle tables and enjoy the photo booth by Keith Kingery Productions of Eldorado. At 6:15, a pasta dinner buffet by the SIC Falcon Pointe Bistro will be served. Then at 7 p.m., the dueling pianos show begins. Bar services will be available, as will commemorative glasses to mark the occasion.

Phil Vassar, Love and Theft join fair's grandstand lineup
DU QUOIN -- Phil Vassar with Love and Theft will round out the Du Quoin State Fair grandstand by playing on Saturday, Sept. 1. "We're thrilled to have Phil Vassar close out the grandstand at the Du Quoin State Fair," says Assistant State Fair Manager, Tibretta Reiman. "This year features an eclectic lineup and Phil Vassar fits a perfect niche in the lineup."

New promotion agency hopes to bring big names to southern Illinois
MARION -- A new Southern Illinois-based promotion company is hoping to reap big benefits for the local entertainment scene and they've started off with a bang. Cody Dunbar and Rob Baril, owners of the M5E Agency, announced Friday that Blue Oyster Cult will be coming to the Marion Cultural and Civic Center on Oct. 14. Dunbar signed a contract with the MCCC on Friday for that event.

7th annual Mine Rescue & Skills competition on tap at SIC
The seventh annual Mine Rescue & Skills Competition is coming to Southeastern Illinois College June 12 and 13, hosted by SIC and partner Illinois Eastern Community Colleges. More than 80 coal miners from around the region will compete and train in a variety of skills they hope to never have to use, readying themselves for fires, cave-ins and various other potential underground disasters. "We have been hosting this event for seven years, and this year is the third time we have had 12 teams compete," said Ben Ross, career and technical education coordinator at SIC.

Marion will truly become the "Hub of the Universe" this week, at least for the 46 young ladies who will grace the stage at the Marion Cultural and Civic Center.

The "Come Fish With Us" fishing clinics will be held 9 to 11 a.m. on four dates this summer: June 14; June 21; July 12 and July 19, in the Cache River State Natural Area.
