Vicky Joyce (Hale) Leonberger

Vicky Joyce (Hale) Leonberger passed peacefully from this life at 12:25 p.m. Sept. 25, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Vicky was born Feb. 23, 1949, to James and Laverne (Weatherington) Hale. On Sept. 25, 1965, she married Arlie W. "PeeWee" Leonberger. From that union was born their son, Steven W. Leonberger.

Vicky worked as a waitress, CNA, and secretary for Denny and Simpson, where she was best known as "Nervous." She loved her job and was very good at it, especially at keeping the truck drivers and loader men in line. When they sold out to Martin Marietta, her boss said that if he ever opened another quarry, he'd be calling her because she was the one that kept things running.

Vicky is survived by her son, Steven Leonberger, and wife Tabitha; grandson Ryan Leonberger and wife Faith; granddaughter Laura Leonberger; great-grandchildren Kayden, Rowan, and Shiloh Leonberger; sisters Judy Street, Darlene Goolsby and Della Simmons; brother Michael Hale; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vicky was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie; parents James and Laverne Hale; brother Ronald Dean Hale; and her grandparents.

Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023, at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Rev. Harold Miller will officiate, and burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery at Cave-in-Rock. Visitation was Tuesday, Oct. 3 at Stricklin Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
