A Pinckneyville man is dead after a two-car accident Monday morning that closed Illinois Rt. 154 for about four hours.

The Illinois State Police report that Brian A. Scholebo, 27, died following the crash around 7:18 a.m. Feb. 27 on Rt. 154 about half a mile east of Rose of Sharon Road in Perry County.

Seriously injured in the crash was Michael A. Gibson, 39, of Sparta. Gibson was flown from the scene via helicoptor to a regional hospital.

Investigators say Scholebo was driving his 2015 Dodge Dart eastbound on Rt. 154 when he crossed the center line for an unknown reason and struck a 2011 Mitsubishi Galant driven by Gibson.

Following the crash, traffic in the area was diverted off of Rt. 154 at Rt. 150 to the west and at the roundabout west of Pickneyville to the east. The roadway reopened at about 11:15 a.m.

The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the crash.
