If you like loud noise, motorcycle exhaust and thrilling motocross racing then you were probably one of the 3,000 to 4,000 people who enjoyed the Nitro Arenacross weekend at the Du Quoin state Fairgrounds.
The two days of aerobatic racing and high performance athleticism brought riders from eight states to the Southern Illinois Center on Friday and Saturday night.
An estimated 300 riders participated in the two days of racing. Each night began with a short concert, fog and a light show.
But, it was the racing that most came for.
Promoter Jay Reynolds said the weekend was well-received and he hope to make it an annual event.
He is also partnering with the Du Quoin State Fair to bring a first class demolition derby to the Southern Illinois Center next year.
The weekend was also marked with letting grade school students in Du Quoin talk to riders before the show. Kids under 11 get in free on Friday night, the first of the two shows.
