Not all of the numbers are in, but from those that are it can be said that the Du Quoin State Fair is off to its best start in at least the past five years.
“This is very exciting,” said assistant manager Norm Hill as he talked about the perfect weather and the perfect numbers. “It is easy for us to go back to 2010 and the  carnival saw its largest first weekend gross since 2010,” he said.
Last year’s opening weekend was brutally hot and the opening weekend attendance was painfully off. “Our Saturday was  parking was 91 percent better than last year,” said Hill.
You read it right, 91 percent!
“Our numbers are up for the carnival, for parking and in the livestock show. I don’t know about camping yet,” he said.
What’s even more exciting is the fact that the weather forecast is calling for NO RAIN the rest of the fair with overnight lows in the upper 60s and daytime highs in the low 90s.
“I am so proud of the support that our part time staff gives us and the support that the public gives this fair,” he said.
The fair continues today with the Charlie Daniels Band on stage tonight followed by country super stars Montgomery Gentry on Thursday night. Te group Night Ranger is on stage Friday with Collective Soul on Saturday and Randy Rouser with Brett Young on Monday.
