A West Frankfort man is held on multiple charges and two women were injured in a Sunday evening melee that involved an ax and an attack on the women using a motor vehicle.
According to a prepared release by Chief of Police Shawn Talluto, James M. Lenzie, 25, went to the home of Anita J. Ausec, 37, and Anita K. Austin, 53, in the 200 block of East Lindell St. where he was to deliver personal property that belonged to Lenzie's estranged roommate.
After arrival shortly after 7 p.m., police say Lenzie refused to turn over the property and officers were told Lenzie produced an ax and threatened to kill the roommate.
Lenzie then struck the roommate, not identified in the release, in the face.
Before leaving, police say Lenzie struck both Ausec and Austin with his vehicle, backed up and hit Austin a second time before leaving.
Police arrested Lenzie at his father's home in the 900 block of East Poplar Street. He has been charged with two counts of reckless conduct, a Class 4 felony; aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony; and two counts of leaving the scene of a person injury accident.
Talluto said the two victims were taken to Herrin Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life threatening.
