For 15th year, crowd treated to dinner and a mystery

“The Ghost of Plymouth Castle” haunted the stage at the Carrier Mills-Stonefort Middle School on the night of Friday, April 26.

The annual 4th grade dinner theater preformed the mystery inspired by A.C. Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes mysteries. The heroin, Blaylock Jones and her trusty side-kick Datson successfully saved Lady Plymouth from the evil plot to scare her away from the castle she had inherited on the conditions of living there for a certain number of days.

The students from the classes of Phyllis Bradley and Julie Emery made up the cast with each class performing the play once. From Bradley’s class, Jade Hill played Blaylock Jones, Ezekiel Sanderson played Datson, with Devanie Scott and Tiffany Beahringer playing Lady Plymouth and Prunella. From Emery’s class, Sammy Morris and Johnathan Murphy portrayed Jones and Datson with Hope Taylor and Faith Vinson playing Lady Plymouth and Prunella.

The play was preceded by a dinner buffet prepared by the middle school kitchen staff. The menu was Lady Plymouth’s Pasta, Blaylock’s Leafy Greens, Datson’s Delightful Dinner Rolls, Kevin and Prunella’s Perfect Punch and Tea, with a Ghostly Surprise for dessert with the junior high student council as servers. After the plays the audience was treated to three musical numbers with the girls and boys from both classes performing separate dances and then performing the last number together.

Bradley has been the driving force in these productions since she began producing the dinner theater nearly 15 years ago. Growing from an in class play performed for parents in the old middle school building to its present dinner, play and musical numbers, Bradley’s dinner theater has brought pleasure and pride to students and parents in our community.

“The students that I think are least likely to want to play a part are the ones who turn out to be star performers,” Bradley said, adding “That tickles me very much!

Kingery Productions of Eldorado provided video recording of the event as they have since Bradley began public performances with copies of the performances available to the public. Art instructor Troy Mayberry provided the stage set with Fifth grade instructor Dexter Parks managing lights and sound.
