Ileen Christina (Commean) Hawk

Ileen Christina (Commean) Hawk, 90, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:40 a.m., Monday, Feb. 8, 2010 at the Fairview Nursing Center at Du Quoin.


Ileen had been a homemaker.  She and her husband, Kenneth, sponsored the Christian Youth Fellowship in the 1950's and 1960's in Du Quoin.  They were very well known and successful from Du Quoin up to Sandoval.  Ileen loved to catfish with her husband.  They also traveled to Florida and other places in their travel trailer.  Her job in life was being a loving mother and wife.  She enjoyed sewing for herself, her children, and grandchildren.  Ileen loved to crochet and shared her beautiful afghans and baby sweaters with others.  Ileen was a kind and generous person.


She was born on Oct. 8, 1919 at Du Quoin, Ill., the daughter of Elmer and Christina (Stanhouse) Commean.


She married Kenneth Hawk, the love of her life, on April 16, 1938 at Perryville, Mo. and he survives.  Earl and Athena Ray stood up with them.


She is survived by her husband of Du Quoin; two children - Diana (Gene) Rolando and Lybrand (DiAnna) Hawk, all of Du Quoin; one daughter-in-law - Phyllis Hawk of Anna; nine grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law - Lois Bowlin and good friend - Margaret Harris.


Ileen "Mamma Hawk, Grandma" also had a second family at Fairview Nursing Center where she was cared for with love and affection from Jenny to Chance.


She was preceded in death by her parents, one son - Allen Hawk, and five brothers - Walter Commean, Wilbur Commean, Charlie Commean, Marion Commean and William "Dude" Commean.


Graveside services were at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010 at the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin with Rev. Gerald Wright officiating.


Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery.


Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.


Friends may make memorials to the Fairview Nursing Center Activity Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
