The estimated jackpot for Friday's Mega Millions lottery is now $540 million, a new world record. Sales have been brisk as Mega Millions fever spreads. The previous lottery record was $390 million, which was also for a Mega Millions lottery. The winning numbers will be drawn Friday night. If there is a single winner of the jackpot, the payment can be taken over 26 years or as a lump-sum payment of $389 million.
