Former Marion standout and University of Tennessee senior Daryl Sullivan was one of six UT Track & Field athletes recognized as U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Americans.
On Tuesday, the USTFCCCA released its list of NCAA Division I All-Americans for the 2020 indoor season.
Sullivan was joined on the list by teammates Alexis Duncan, Latavia Maines, Joesph Maxwell, Carey McLeod, Alonie Sutton and Dominique Turner.
Sullivan earned his third All-America certificate in the men's indoor high jump, becoming the first athlete in UT history to accomplish that feat. He recorded the No. 1 mark in the world for the 2020 indoor season, leaping over a bar of 7-feet-7.75 on January 18 at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
Sullivan's jump equaled the 2020 Olympic standard, all-time SEC indoor record and No. 4 performance in NCAA history. He was twice named to the men's watch list for The Bowerman, collegiate track & field's highest individual honor.
Due to the unique circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 global health crisis and cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Indoor National Championships, the Division I Track & Field Executive Committee altered its criteria for All-America selection. For individual events, all student-athletes named on the startlist for the anticipated event were recognized as All-Americans for the 2020 indoor track & field season.
"All seven of our student-athletes are incredibly deserving of this honor," head coach/director of track & field Beth Alford-Sullivan said. "Awarding the All-America status to these young people recognizes their great accomplishments throughout the 2020 indoor season. The loss of the actual indoor championship competition will be one that we all remember forever, and I know these Vols and Lady Vols are honored to receive this recognition."
Tennessee's illustrious track & field history now includes 1,161 total All-America honors achieved by 334 unique student-athletes. Read below for more notes on UT's seven 2020 honorees.
