History has a way of repeating itself and it did in a very similar fashion Saturday night as Eldorado held off a late run, making key shots and free throws down the stretch, to beat Harrisburg and capture the championship of the Lady Eagle Mid-Winter Classic for a second straight year.
In the 10-point, 45-35 victory, the Eagles held Harrisburg to 28 percent shooting and put two players in double figures as the tournament's most valuable player Paige Munds scored 12 points and Lily Mosby had a team-high 14 points, including 12 in a critical fourth quarter where EHS kept Harrisburg at bay.
Eldorado went 5-for-7 from the free throw line and finished 9-of-13, while Mosby was 5-of-6 from the stripe, scoring seven other points en route to a second straight title for the Eagles.
"I thought we did a pretty good job from the free throw line tonight," Eldorado head coach Scott Artman said. "A couple of games in the tournament, we struggled a little bit. I thought we did a good job tonight at the free throw line.
"These kids are making history right now," Artman added. "Hopefully we can continue that on down the line and write a little more history as we go into the later season. (Saturday) defense is what we keyed in on and I think we did a really good job on defense all throughout the game."
Eldorado got seven points from both Lexie Mitchell and Karis Lane, while Emma Wargel finished with five points.
Harrisburg got 14 points from Lydia Miller, while Lauren McDaniel and Stream Black both scored eight points a piece. Gabby Adams tacked on three points, while Essence Sanders tossed in two points.
Gallatin County 53, Vienna 38
Carly Foster flipped in a game-high 20 points and Audrey Jackson tacked on 12 as Gallatin County picked up seventh place, beating Vienna 53-38 Saturday afternoon.
Gracie Sauls and Mackenzie Russell each had eight points for the Hawks, while Halli DeNeal finished with five points.
The Lady Eagle Mid-Winter Classic All Tournament Team consisted of Gallatin County's Carly Foster, Goreville's Payton Sopczak, Fairfield's Leah Bowers, Mt. Carmel's Maya Smith, Carmi's Sydney Lucas, Vienna's Emma Rush, along with the Harrisburg duo of Lydia Miller and Lauren McDaniel, along with Eldorado's Lexie Mitchell, Lilly Mosby, Emma Wargel and MVP Paige Munds. Gallatin County's Audrey Jackson took home the Duff-Kingston Sportsmanship Award.
Eldorado 48, Fairfield 45
Eldorado overcame a four-point deficit entering the fourth quarter and rallied to beat Fairfield 48-45 Thursday night at the Lady Eagle Mid-Winter Classic.
The Eagles trailed 43-39 going into the game's final eight minutes and outscored the Mules 9-2 as Eldorado put two players in double figures.
Paige Munds, who joined the school's 1,000 point club, had a team-high 19 points, while Lexie Mitchell finished with 15 points.
Lily Mosby and Emma Wargel both finished with five points, while Karis Lane tossed in four points.
