MARION -- Marion High School's wrestling team finished fifth in a field of 23 teams last weekend at the Murdale tournament in Carbondale.

The Wildcats had three wrestlers in the finals, Gaige Owens (126/31-3), Nate Dampier (138 /22-4), and River Flute (182/30-3), all finished in second place.

Kanye Gunn (285 /24-11) placed third, Gage Kent (106 /22-10) placed fifth, Aden White (145/20-9) finished seventh, and Daniel Gilley (152 /22-12) and Clayton Tanner (170 /20-13) both placed eighth for the Wildcats.

"I was hoping to finish in the top 8-10 and finishing fifth was a nice surprise," said Wildcats head coach Darren Lindsey. "The Wildcats had a great tournament and everyone fought their tails off and competed well"

The Wildcats will host teams from Jackson, Mo., Paducah Tillman, Ky., and Anna next Thursday in the HEC building of the high school. The action on mat begins at 5:30 p.m.
