The 2020 Chester High School Football season is only seven months away and the Chester Quarterback Club is preparing for its major fundraiser of the off-season to help buy the team some much-needed equipment.

The even popular "Meat Wheel" event is just 11 days away and will be hosted at the Chester Eagles Club in Chester from noon to 4 p.m.

The Meat Wheel will spin throughout the afternoon giving participants the chance to win bacon, pork steaks and pork chops. The meat wheel will spin about 40 times all afternoon -- and a few more times for special prizes of pork butts.

Another raffle will give away an official Yellow Jacket football helmet and season tickets for all 2020 home games.

"We really appreciate the Quarterback Club for hosting this," said head coach Billy Belton. "It's the third annual Meat Wheel fundraiser, and we have always had a great turnout to help support Yellow Jacket football."

Belton also said he appreciates the support of the community for Chester football and said this year's proceeds will help obtain some much-needed equipment, including a new chute for offensive and defensive linemen to help train them to come off the line in a low stance.

"Coach Trevor Kelkhoff built us a chute several years ago, but it's getting worn and in need of replacement," Belton explained. "We move the chute around quite a bit and in the process it has begun to deteriorate. The new chute will be factory made and built to withstand a lot of abuse."

He said the team also needs new pads for the five-man sled.

"The pads will protect the boys from the bare metal when attacking the sled in drills," he said.

At the fundraiser, the football parents will donate free food and snacks, and beverages will be available for purchase at the Eagles Club.

You don't have to be connected to the Chester football program to attend, in fact the public is strongly invited.
