SIU AD Liz Jarnigan named to NCAA Olympic Sports Liaison Committee

Southern Illinois Director of Athletics Liz Jarnigan has been appointed to the NCAA Olympic Sports Liaison Committee and will serve a term through August, 2023.
The purpose of the Olympic Sports Liaison Committee is to facilitate communication and understanding between the NCAA, the United States Olympic Committee and the national governing bodies. Through this communication the Olympic Sports Liaison Committee will assist the USOC and the national governing bodies in facilitating the best possible development of elite athletes within the contact of the NCAA's commitment to education and a broad-based development of all student-athletes.
"It's a privilege to serve on this committee and I look forward to the opportunity to advance the priorities of our NCAA member institutions and to promote the well-being of its student-athletes," Jarnigan said. "I am passionate about enhancing the student-athlete experience and the educational value of intercollegiate athletics."
The Olympic Sports Liaison Committee will provide an avenue of communication and access for the USOC and national governing bodies into the NCAA process and, where appropriate, make recommendations to the NCAA membership. Finally, the Olympic Sports Liaison Committee will strive to provide education to the USOC, national governing bodies and student-athletes regarding NCAA rules and regulations as they apply to world-class athletes.
Jarnigan was promoted to director of athletics at SIU on Sept. 16, 2019, after serving for one year as the department's Senior Woman Administrator and Executive Senior Associate AD under Jerry Kill.
Prior to SIU, Jarnigan served as the senior woman administrator for two years at Air Force and was a member of the athletic department's senior leadership team. She was the primary advisor and liaison to the athletic director on all matters concerning intercollegiate women's programs as it related to equity and gender issues. She also had sports supervision responsibilities for both men's and women's programs.
