A hot start paved the way to a season opening win for Harrisburg as the Bulldog girls' basketball team won 50-32 at Gallatin County High School Tuesday night.
Harrisburg (1-0) jumped out to a 13-2 start and never looked back, putting two players in double figures.
Lydia Miller had a team-high 13 points, while Lauryn Gribble tossed in 11 points for Harrisburg.
Gallatin County Audrey Jackson led all scorers for the second straight game as the senior combo guard had 14 points, eight of which came in a fourth quarter where Gallatin County mounted a mini comeback.
The Hawks (0-2) just 24 hours removed from their game at Benton on Monday night trailed by 21 points in the third quarter, but was able to make things respectable, cutting the lead late to 15 points midway through the final eight minutes.
"We just didn't take care of the basketball," Sauls said of some early turnovers against Harrisburg.
"As far as our effort, I'm over the moon, They could have given up and they didn't, but we have to have that same effort every night and I know we'll get there. We're playing some really tough, but good teams right now that are only going to make us better in the long run. You're only going to get better if you're playing good competition."
Carly Foster tacked on 13 points for Gallatin County as she finished in double digits as well. MaKenzie Russell finished with four points and Hallie Zirkelback had a free throw.
Harrisburg got seven points from Lauren McDaniel and six points a piece from Essence Sanders and Stream Black. Summer Sanders finished with five points, while Mya King tossed in two points.
Harrisburg returns to action Thursday in a home-opener against Mt. Vernon, while Gallatin County will play Webber Township Friday at home.
