DHS girls first, boys second at Chuck Ingram Invite

HARRISBURG -- The Du Quoin High School girls cross country team won yet another tournament this week, placing first at the Chuck Ingram Invitational in Harrisburg Wednesday.

The Lady Indians totaled 28 points or 61 points better than second-place Anna-Jonesboro's 89. Marion was third with 91 points. Hamilton County was fourth followed by Goreville, Massac County, West Frankfort and Galatia.

Top individual performer was senior Gabby Alongi, who placed second overall with a time of 19 minutes, 46 seconds.

Lauren Heape was fourth in 20:20. Olivia Phillips finished fifth in 20:36. Grace Alongi was eighth with a time of 21:59. Jacqueline Crain placed ninth with a time of 22:01. Maddie Decker was 23rd in 24:18 and Alexis George was 24th in 24:32.

On the boys' side, DHS finished runner-up to Marion. The Wildcats totaled 20 points to the Indians' 73. Hamilton County was third with 87 points followed by Herrin, Vienna, Norris City/Omaha/Enfield, West Frankfort, Crab Orchard, Goreville, Gallatin County, Carrier Mills, Harrisburg and Thompsonville.

Du Quoin's Landen Swiney finished second overall with a time of 16:33, or eight seconds behind the medalist, Ty Barber of Carmi-White County (16:25).

Jon Gomes had the second-fastest time for the Indians at 18:16 and placed 13th overall. Nathan Smith was 15th in 18:22. Wendell Killian finished 28th in 19:10. Slayde Huntley was 34th in 19:25 and Reece Tilley was 54th in 20:11. There were 110 runners altogether.
