'Dogs fall to Marion in straight sets

The Harrisburg varsity volleyball team fell to Marion on Tuesday night, losing 25-18 and 25-18.
Unforced errors were a huge problem for the Bulldogs on the road in non-conference action.
"We missed eight serves during the match and had nine hitting errors," HHS head coach Heather Cox said. "That is 17 points we did not make Marion earn. It's hard to come out on the winning side with that many mistakes. Thankfully, it is still early in the season and room for improvement is plenty."
Junior Carlea Fuerback and Freshmen Kaleigh Hodge each had four kills. Daisha Locke and Lauryn Gribble each had three blocks.
The Harrisburg junior varsity team also lost to Marion, falling 25-7 and 25-19, while the freshman team went down 25-15 and 25-18.
Late last week, Harrisburg lost in the last two sets against Eldorado where Cox reiterated how mistakes are becoming all too common.
"Whether it is hitting errors, lack of communication or passing errors, we are making too many mistakes to win," Cox said.
Sophomore Libero Riley Harrison had four aces and 15 digs for the match. Fuerback had five kills, four blocks and three aces, while Locke had three aces, two kills and eight assists.
The JV and freshmen team won in two sets at Eldorado, while the same two squads won in two sets against Hardin County.
Harrisburg was slated to play at Benton on Thursday and will be at Mascoutah on Saturday.
Eldorado drops two matches at NCOE
On Wednesday, the Eldorado volleyball team fell to Carmi 25-19 and 25-14 and then lost in straight sets to Hamilton County 27-25 and 25-20.
Against Carmi-White County, Kynzie Sizemore led the Eagles with 14 spikes and one kill. Emma Wargel finished 7-8 on spikes with two kills and six blocks. Paige Munds and Lexi Mitchell paced the EHS defense with 10 digs for Munds and nine digs for Mitchell. Lily Mosby had six spikes, to go with two kills and three blocks, while Lauryn Hampton led with sets with 14.
Against Hamilton County, Mitchell led the Eagles in serves, going 9-9 with nine points, two aces and 14 digs.
Wargel led the team in spikes with 17, three kills, and went 3-3 on blocks with one kill. Hampton led the team in sets, going 18-19, while Most was 8-9 on spikes with two kills and three blocks.
Sizemore finished with six spikes and one kill, while Munds was 7-7 on serves with 11 digs and Karis Lane went 6-7 on spikes.
