The Chester Yellow Jackets stumbled Sept. 6 against a very good Eldorado Eagles squad, losing 38-14 in another Black Diamond Conference battle.

The Jackets trailed 38-0 until finally scoring 14 points in the last quarter, but it was too little too late. Eldorado is now 2-0 on the young season and Chester is 1-1.

"Eldorado was a very good football team. They were well coached and played hard," said Chester Head Coach Billy Belton.

"We have several areas we need to focus on this week in practice. We need to tackle better, and we need to finish our blocks. We also need to run the football. We have a young team and have to improve every week."

First half, 32-0

Eldorado got on the board early, on a Jacob Etienne 18-yard run for a touchdown. Instead of kicking the extra point, Aidan Kuhn ran it in for a 2-point conversion. The rest of the first period was a defensive battle with neither team able to score, and after one quarter EHS led 8-0.

In the second quarter it was all Eagles. Eldorado scored three times to gain a 32-0 halftime lead going into the locker room.

Lydayyea Shewmaker scored first on a 59-yard run. Again, the Eagles skipped the extra point and Aidan Kuhn ran it in for two. After the Eagles defense forced a fumble, Shewmaker struck again, a 30-yard run for six. This time Jacob Etienne ran for the two-point conversion, and the Eagles pulled ahead, 24-0.

To close out the half, Ezra Burtis caught a 21-yard pass from Eagles quarterback, Aiden Whitlock, for the final Eagle TD of the first half. Ezra Burtis ran in the two-point conversion. Eldorado led, 32-0 at the break.

Second half, 38-14

After the halftime show the Yellow Jacket defense went to work and held the Eagles to just one touchdown -- a three-yard run by Aidan Kuhn. The Eagles tried their first extra point, but the Jacket defense foiled it.

Chester held the Eagles scoreless in the final period, while the offense perked up and scored twice, on the back of CHS sophomore running back Aiden Jany. His first touchdown was an 18-yard run, and his second TD was a 16-yard run.

Chester got a two-point conversion on the first score but failed on the second. The Jackets fell, 38-14 at the final buzzer.
