A common term in the basketball world is "shooter's shoot."
It applies even for when you're shot isn't going in.
When Capel Henshaw took his last shot at Lewis University on March 5, 2017 he wasn't really sure if his basketball career was over.
A fleeting thought about playing overseas crossed the Harrisburg native's mind, but knowing that the game he has grown up playing for so long was in his DNA, Henshaw did the only thing he knew to do: keep shooting.
Henshaw, who helped lead Harrisburg to a Class 2A State Championship title in 2013, applied for grad school at Lewis and got on as graduate assistant in the athletic department.
Two year's later, Henshaw is back in the game.
On Wednesday, the school he graduated from named him Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities.
Henshaw will be responsible for maintenance of all of Lewis' athletic facilities and be in charge of game day operations.
Henshaw, who stands at No 2 on Harrisburg's all-time scoring list, majored in sports management and then got his masters in business administration and instead of getting into business or finance, Henshaw decided to follow his heart.
"Once I started the grad position I found out something I already knew and that I was meant to be in athletics," Henshaw said. "I'm most comfortable and passionate an love working for athletics as a whole and being part of a department."
After competing his masters degree in May, Henshaw said the job was created for him prior to graduation and didn't really even exist a month ago.
It's the support from the university and bonds he has formed that makes Henshaw grateful for the opportunities bestowed upon him.
"Romeoville has become a second home for me," he said. "I'm very comfortable here and there hasn't been much of a transition. This is a great community and we're very close to Chicago. It's my home away from home. The people I have met and the people that I work with make you feel at home.
"When I finished playing there was maybe a chance to go and playing overseas, but really, I wanted a break from the game and I know a lot of people find hard to believe. I didn't really know at that point what I was looking for, but this job these last two years has got me closer to game. I volunteered with the men's team last year and I'll probably do it again this year. Basketball will always be a part of me and maybe some day down the road, I'll get more involved."
Right now, Henshaw is content -- learning the ropes at a school where has already tied some knots -- and along the way aspiring to grow into a role that will one day lead to him becoming an athletic director.
"Lewis has been great for me and the gave me my first opportunity to play basketball after Harrisburg. I couldn't be happier than where I am right now and look forward to my new role."
