DU QUOIN -- The Du Quoin Indians took it on the chin Monday, falling to Nashville, 13-3, in Mississippi Division play.

The difference in the game was the sixth inning when the Hornets broke a 3-3 tie to plate 10 runs. Will Meadows, in relief of starter Owen Bradley, was tagged with the loss, but half of those 10 runs or five were unearned. He surrendered four hits and walked three.

Winning pitcher was Todd Jahnke, who worked six innings, striking out seven. He allowed three runs, all earned, on three hits.

Offensively, the Indians were led Nick Depyatic, Alex Zimmerman and Alec Caldwell with one hit apiece.

"We came out and put pressure on them, scoring with RBI hits from Depyatic in the second and Zimmerman in the third," said DHS head coach Kyle Geiger. "But mentally, we did not stay in the game after that. We lost focus and started playing on our heels on defense, which led to errors. Give credit to Nashville for hanging in there and battling back by not losing focus. We tell our guys every week, that they have to play seven innings and that they can't take pitches or innings off."

The Tribe, now 5-4 in the conference and 11-10 overall, was set to play today (Wednesday) at Benton and Thursday at Waltonville.
