PINCKNEYVILLE -- The Pinckneyville High School boys basketball team drubbed Anna-Jonesboro, 70-38, at home Friday night and then was on the receiving end of a drubbing at Nashville, 52-25, Saturday night for a very split weekend.
In the win over the Wildcats, the Panthers led 16-6 after one quarter and then 37-18 at halftime and took a 53-28 lead into the fourth quarter.
But against the Hornets, the Panthers fell behind 12-3 and trailed 24-8 at the half and 36-12 at the end of three quarters. Nashville reached the mercy clock at 51-21 with 3-1/2 minutes left.
Nashville jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Kelton Linze hit a 3-pointer for the Panthers, who were playing without leading scorer Dawson Yates due to a back injury.
Carson Parker led the Hornets with 17 points and Bryce Bultman had 14. Hunter Riggins led Pinckneyville with 16 points.
Nashville, which beat Carterville 52-24 on Friday night, is now 28-2 overall and 8-1 in the SIRR Mississippi with the lone loss coming at Pinckneyville. Saturday's win clinched at least a share of the league title.
Pinckneyville is now 23-5 and 7-2.
