Rockets shoot past Indians at tournament

OKAWVILLE -- The Du Quoin High School boys basketball team fell behind early and couldn't recover Monday evening in a 62-48 loss to Okawville on the first night of the Okawville Invitational Tournament.
Du Quoin's season record dropped to 8-9 with the loss.
Okawville jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the first quarter, then led 31-18 at halftime.
The Indians pulled within 46-38 at the end of the third period, but the Rockets held on for the 14-point win.
Jackson Heckert led Okawville with 18 points. Will Aubel was next with 13 and Lane Schilling had 10. Lucas Frederking chipped in nine.
Du Quoin was led by Braeden Pursell with 15 points. Josh Heape had 14.
Kadin Mays had six, Shamar Adams had five and Anthony Cole scored three points for the Indians.
Du Quoin goes back to Okawville on Thursday to face Madison at 6 p.m. and again Friday to face Trenton-Wesclin at 7:30 p.m. before finishing against Waterloo Gibault on Saturday at 6 p.m.
