CARTERVILLE -- Jonah Jackson hit a school-record 10 3-pointers to lead the John A. Logan College men's basketball team to a 137-76 rout of West Kentucky Tech from Paducah on Friday evening at Brewer Gymnasium.
Jackson was 10-of-16 from 3-point land for 30 total points and Logan's new record, eclipsing the mark of nine recently set by Herrin's Jamie Jones.
"My teammates looked for me when we got out in transition," Jackson said. "It was a fun day. The record is a great accomplishment. I didn't realize it until they told me in the locker room."
Logan head coach Kyle Smithpeters enjoyed how it happened.
"It's one of those things where you're happy with your culture because your guys are excited," Smithpeters said. "They were begging me to put him back in the game because they knew he was close to getting 10. It makes it enjoyable when you have a group that is happy for someone else's success."
The victory improved the No. 8-ranked Volunteers' overall record to 13-1 with nine straight wins. It was Logan's first game after an extended Christmas break and came against a West Kentucky Tech squad that recently had six players ruled academically ineligible for the new semester.
Nine players scored for Logan and eight of them reached double figures -- with the ninth, Mark Lancaster, netting nine points and missing a rare free throw that would've made it all nine.
Logan sophomore point guard David Sloan had 16 points and 19 assists in the rout.
"David plays within himself but he also makes sure everybody else out there is getting involved and getting better," Smithpeters said. "When you play with a guy like that, it's exciting."
Quamain Nelson had 17 points, Vonnie Patterson had 16 and Antwan Campbell had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Cousin had 15 points, Chris Harris had 14 and Marion native Will Keller had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Logan was without freshman standout Jayden Scrubb, who was nursing a foot injury. The Vols were also without Marion's Justin Saddoris due to an ankle sprain.
Dre Smith led the Stars with 27 points.
Logan plays at home Wednesday night against Southwestern Illinois College in a key GRAC matchup.
