In bowling, it's always nice to pick up the 7-10 split, but you always want the strike.
Starring down the title of the Conrad Allen Tournament is just what Gallatin County head coach Jeff Herrman wanted, but the first-year skipper will have to settle for a split as the Hawks lost to Red Hill 60-43 Saturday night in the championship game.
Robbie Prince had a team-high 14 points for the Hawks, who are the No. 4 seed in next week's Eldorado Holiday Tournament. Audie Goebel netted nine for Gallatin County, while Garrett Rushing added eight points.
Dawson Hish scored six points and Lucas Reeder finished with four points, while Connor Kiesecoms tacked on two points.
Gallatin County stumbled out of the gate and trailed 18-8 after one quarter of play. The Hawks fought back, outscoring the Salukis 10-4 in the second quarter an trailed 22-18 at halftime.
Red Hill recovered and outscored Gallatin County 16-9 in the third to take a 38-27 lead into the final eight minutes where they outscored the Hawks 22-16.
On Friday night, Gallatin County topped North Clay 58-43 at Wayne City
Goebel led all scorers with 22 points, while Rushing tacked on 13 to reach double figures, as did, Hish, who scored 11 points.
Prince scored six points, while Brock Seely finished with four points and Reeder tossed in two points.
Gallatin County returns to action Thursday when they travel to Goreville.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Hamilton County 55, Gallatin County 24
Audrey Jackson had a team-high 11 points for Gallatin County in a 55-24 loss to Hamilton County late last week.
Gracie Sauls scored six points for the Hawks, while Emma Brockett, Megan Morgan and Makenzie Russell all had two points. Hallie Zirkelbach tossed in a free throw.
Anna Miller and Kaleigh Dodson each scored a co-game-high 14 points, while Jevin Shreve scored 13 points for Hamilton County that is now 12-1 overall and 4-0 in BDC East play.
West Frankfort 45, Gallatin County 26
Jackson had a team-high 14 points, while Russell scored six points. Newton finished with four points and Sauls tacked on two points.
Gallatin County is now 4-11 on the season, but remains unbeaten at 3-0 in Greater Egyptian Conference play. Gallatin County returns to action on January 3rd at Dongola for a varsity game only.
