From the very beginning, Karsyn Davis has been breaking records.
The Harrisburg High School senior holds the school's all-time RBI record in softball. It was a mark Davis set herself ‑ as a freshman ‑ when she also broke the batting average record of .511.
Davis has been a solid star on the Harrisburg softball team and she hopes that translates the same when she goes on to play for Divison 1 Southeast Missouri State University next season.
Davis recently signed her National Letter of Intent and will cherish her last year as a Bulldog before she makes the short trek west to Cape Girardeau.
"I'm very excited to be signing with SEMO," Davis said. "I really loved the fact that it was closer to home, so my parents and family could come watch me play. The Ohio Valley Conference also really attracted me because there are six schools counting SEMO within 2 hours and 30 minutes away from Harrisburg, so my family will be able to come to most of my road games too. I chose to go there based off of the camps and talking to the players and coaches, I felt like I fit in and clicked really well there. I also have watched the way coach (Mark) Redburn has coached and it reminds me a lot of the way my dad coaches. I felt like I could benefit really well from the way he does things and the way he coaches."
As far as her strengths and weaknesses, Davis acknowledged the need to get faster, but also wants to use this season to polish up the small things in her game.
"I've gotten the chance to talk with the coaching staff a lot. They hope this first year I can get to SEMO and learn the system and get a feel for playing at the next level. I'll definitely have the chance to compete for playing time my first year. It all just depends on how I perform once I get there."
Davis, a catcher the past three seasons, said she is still undecided on a major.
This past season, Davis hit .450 with 54 hits and 42 RBI. She walked 15 times and struck out just three hits in 120 at-bats. She has 13 doubles to go with one triple and one home run. Davis has been an All-Conference selection the last three years in softball and All-South the past two years.
