MJHS boys win Class L cross country meet

BENTON -- The Marion Junior High School boys cross country team won the SIJHSAA Class L state meet held Saturday morning at the Benton City Park.

Marion totaled 84 points to beat nearest finished Collinsville by nine points. Olney, O'Fallon-Carriel and Troy Triad rounded out the top five.

Marion's top individual finisher was Benja Stone, who placed second in 10:14.5. Mekye Lomax was 13th (10:57.9), followed by Sean Hudspath (14th, 10:59.0), Dylon Nalley (18th, 11:04.2), Cade Parks (37th, 11:32.5), Elliott O'Keefe (46th, 11:42.9) and Camden Doss (64th, 11:58.5).

In the girls race, Marion finished seventh but had the individual runner-up in Isis Williams-Wolaver, whose time was 11:45.6 to narrowly edge Waterloo's Angelynn Kanyuck by less than a second. Waterloo's Ali Kloppel was the winner at 11:03.6.

Marion's next finisher was Kamarzhea McMillen, who placed 35th in 12:59.9.
