On a night when nothing went right for Christopher/Zeigler-Royalton, their own miscues were too much to overcome as they lost to a very good Chester Yellow Jackets team, 41-6.
The Cats fumbled the rain-slicked ball away five times, three of them on the first play after a Yellow Jackets score, two of those leading to another Chester tally. The third Yellow Jacket opportunity was thwarted when, for the second week in a row, Greg Fletcher had a touchdown-saving interception on the one-yard line.
Chester scored four times in the first half, the first being at 8:15 in the first quarter on a Nick Meyer 43-yard pass to Keith Keiner. The two-point conversions failed.
The next Chester score came with 13.5 seconds left in the first quarter six-yard run by Drake Bollman. Once again, the Bearcats stuffed the two-point conversion attempt, making the score 12-0.
That score was followed up with another at 7:14 of the second period on a seven-yard run by Meyer. Ethan Rayburn ran in the two-point conversion.
The final score of the half came with 5:41 left on an Eric Cowell three-yard run. The two-point run by Ethan Thompson made the score 28-0 at the half.
Chester would score twice more on their way to victory.
The Bearcats did score on a nifty 74-yard touchdown pass From Bryce Pratt to Gabriel Motsinger early in the fourth quarter. The two-point conversion failed. That bought the score to 41-6, but that was as close as the 'Cats would get.
Up next for the Bearcats will be Senior Night when they host the Hamilton County Foxes on Friday.
