MARION -- A free kick with 27 seconds left helped the Marion High School boys soccer team salvage a 1-1 tie with Murphysboro on Thursday evening at Wildcat Stadium.
Marion's season record is now 5-8-3.
The Wildcats were staring at defeat until Zachary Underwood sent in a free kick pass to the back post, where Nick Cornaghie put a header on the ball to score the tying goal.
Marion plays at home again Tuesday night against Mt. Vernon, then travels to Poplar Bluff, Mo., next Thursday to finish the regular season.
Marion also learned its postseason path on Wednesday.
The Wildcats play either Salem or Olney in the Effingham 2A Regional semifinals on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 4 p.m., with the winner advancing to play either Carterville-Herrin or Effingham on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m.
Carbondale is also hosting a regional that includes Mt. Vernon, Anna-Jonesboro and Centralia. The winners of the Carbondale and Effingham regionals feed into the Troy Triad Sectional.
