CARBONDALE -- The Marion High School boys soccer team was hoping for revenge but instead ended up on the losing end again when facing rival Carbondale on Tuesday night.
Carbondale, which knocked off the Wildcats on their special Pink Out night recently, claimed the South Seven Conference championship trophy after beating Marion again, this time by a 3-1 score at the Fralish Soccer Complex.
Carbondale posed with the title trophy after finishing 6-0-1 in the conference.
Marion fell to 5-8-2 overall and 2-3 in the South Seven.
The Wildcats got off to a good start as Hamzah Baker scored the first goal with 32:33 left in the first half.
It was all Terriers after that, however, as James Oberg scored on penalty kicks at the 24:57 and 6:47 marks still before halftime and forced Marion to play the entire second half with 10 players.
Josh Payne added a goal for Carbondale with 6:02 left. It came after Marion's defense thwarted several other opportunities.
Marion was scheduled to play at home Thursday against Murphysboro and then host Mt. Vernon on Tuesday before finishing the regular season at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) on Oct. 11.
