MARION -- A win would've been nice, but the Marion Wildcats boys soccer team accomplished a greater purpose with Thursday's match against Carbondale.
It was the annual Pink Out match and came a night before the football team did the same. The soccer team, however, focused its efforts with jersey and shirt sales for friend of the program Kistin Lober, who is currently battling cancer.
Lober was on the field for the ceremony of passing the special jerseys from the players to those who purchased them in honor of someone connected with cancer.
As for the match, Carbondale scored a goal late in the opening half and added another in the second half to pull out a 2-0 win and snap a 10-game losing skid in matches at Wildcat Stadium.
The Terriers moved to 11-3 overall with their fifth straight win and bumped to 3-0 in the South Seven. Marion's records dipped to 4-7-2 and 1-2.
Sajad Nasser scored Carbondale's first goal with 3:41 left in the first half, squeezing a shot just past Marion keeper Camden Dodds. Noah Guyton was credited with an assist.
The Wildcats had chances early in the second half with a string of corner kicks and decent shots by Tyson Stoecklin and Hamzah Baker, but Carbondale keeper Braulio Ostos kept Marion off the board.
The Terriers increased their lead after a string of their own corner kicks. While those didn't result in a goal, Carbondale maintained possession. After James Oberg was stopped with leaping tip save by Dodds, he found the net with 15:02 left on a shot from the left side. Kenny Prabhaker was given an assist.
Dodds was marked for 11 saves in the loss. Marion had just four shots on goal.
