Du Quoin harriers run at Sparta meet

SPARTA -- The Du Quoin High School cross country teams ran at the Sparta Invitational on Tuesday.
The Lady Indians finished second at the 11-team meet behind a strong Waterloo squad that had the top two runners -- Jenna Schwartz (18:48) and Ella King (20:07) -- and four medalists in the top 10.
Du Quoin's Gabby Alongi was third in 20:56, followed by Olivia Phillips (8th, 21:35), Jacqueline Crain (10th, 21:38), Alexis George (17th, 22:29), Grace Alongi (23rd, 22:49), Maddie Decker (28th, 23:16) and Maddie Robison (35th, 24:35).
In the boys race, Du Quoin placed third behind Columbia and Waterloo.
The Indians were led by Jon Gomes (22nd, 18:57), followed by Payton Hilliard (27th, 19:11), Landen Swiney (29th, 19:13) and Carson Davis (30th, 19:19).
