Harrisburg Post 167 breaks seven-game losing skid to win two at 24th District Tournament

The Harrisburg American Legion baseball team picked a really good time to snap a seven game losing streak.
Opening up play in the 24th Division American Legion double elimination tournament, Harrisburg picked up a pair of wins over McLeansboro and Carmi and played in the championship game Monday night.

Harrisburg (10-17) knocked off Carmi Post 224 6-4 Sunday and blanked McLeansboro Post 106 4-0 Saturday.
In the win over Carmi, Harrisburg got a strong outing from Crab Orchard product Josh Turnage, who struck out five over 6.33 innings. Turnage allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits. Rushing came out of the pen, picking up the save.
At the plate Harrisburg made the most of a five-hit day by producing six runs.
Gabe Fowler, Bayden Ditterline, Dallas Reynolds, Krayton Morse and Colby Morse all had one hit, while Fowler, Reynolds, Colby Morse, Kale Oglesby and Payton Miller all had RBI for Post 167.
Turnage scored two runs for Harrisburg, while Ditterline, Rushing, Reynolds and Oglesby all scored one run.
Carmi jumped out to a 1-0 lead after one, but Post 167 scored two runs in the second inning and tacked on another in the third to take a 3-2 lead through three. Post 224 responded with a two-run fifth, but Harrisburg capitalized with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to 5-4 lead. Post 167 tacked on an insurance run in the sixth to win by two.

A three RBI knock by Turnage turned into four-run fifth inning for Harrisburg as the shut out Post 106 Saturday in the first game of the 24th District Tournament.
Ben Byrd was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Turnage scored one run. Garrett Rushing was 1-for-3, while Krayton Morse and Oglesby each scored a run in the win.
On the bump, Nick Walker went the distance, striking out seven and walking four, while allowing just three hits.
The winner of the 24th District Tournament will play Aviston in the seven-team 5th Division Tournament July 21-25.
The Aviston Express Post 1239 is the host team and will include District 22, which gets a first round bye. District 23 (First and Second place finishers), as well as, District 25 (First and Second place finishers).
The District 24 winner and host Aviston will play on Saturday, July 21 at 8 p.m.
That tournament is double elimination as well.
