Smithpeters recognized by Miners; goes into Southern Illinois Coaches Hall of Fame

On Tuesday night, Harrisburg head boys' basketball coach Randy Smithpeters was the newest inductee into the Southern Illinois Miners Hall Of Fame. Smithpeters has coached 25 years at Harrisburg, leading the Bulldogs to a state title in 2013 and is 478-266 all time at Harrisburg.The plaque given to Smithpeters read: In recognition for outstanding dedication to high school basketball in Southern Illinois Randy Smithpeters has been inducted into the Southern Illinois High School Coaches Hall of Fame.Smithpeters is the 11th coach to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, joining local legends such as Mark North (Starta), Al Martin (Du Quoin), Dick Corn (Pinckneyville), Rich Herrin (Benton), Mike Rude (Johnston City), Curt Reed (McLeansboro), Tony Phelps (Benton), Wayne Harre (Nashville), Jay Thompson (Harrisburg) and Bob Karnes (Du Quoin).
