HERRIN -- The Marion High School girls track and field team is sending three athletes to the IHSA Class 2A state meet after the Herrin Sectional was held Wednesday.
Jaidyn Porter finished third in the 400-meter dash but her time of 59.96 seconds, which was a personal-best, met the qualifying mark.
In the pole vault, Quincy Gordon cleared a height of 9 feet, 7 inches for the first time. That personal-best height met the qualifying mark.
And in the high jump, Marissa Holmes matched her personal-best height at 5-4, tying for top honors with Harrisburg's Bryleigh Buchanan, and qualifies for state.
Porter, Gordon and Holmes are all seniors.
Herrin's sectional field was loaded and dominated by East St. Louis, which racked up 147 points compared to runner-up Carbondale at 55. The 15-team field also included Cahokia, Waterloo and Freeburg.
The 2A state preliminaries are next Friday in Charleston.
