Lady Panthers get three wins at Fairfield tourney

FAIRFIELD -- The Pinckneyville High School softball team picked up three wins Saturday to win a tournament hosted by Fairfield.
In the opener, Pinckneyville cruised to a 24-0 three-inning win over Cisne.
Anna Pestka had three hits and three RBIs and Lydia Pestka had three hits and two RBIs. Hannah Dascotte had two hits and drove in four runs and Aubrey Bruns hit her first home run. Taylor Witges gave up one hit in the circle.
Pinckneyville then played Mt. Vernon and won 7-0 in six innings with Daisy Dudek pitching a shutout despite giving up leadoff hits in the first four frames.
Josie Gleason had two hits and drove in two runs and Lauren Jackson also had two hits for the Lady Panthers.
Then in the title game, Pinckneyville gave the ball to Mariah Clark and she pitched a two-hitter to beat Centralia, 3-1. Clark struck out 13 batters and also hit a two-run homer to help her own cause.
Centralia hurler Chloe Wendling gave up just five hits and also homered.
Pinckneyville, which had its record jump to 23-4 with the wins, was supposed to play Marion on Thursday but it was canceled due to rain.
