CARTERVILLE -- The John A. Logan College softball team has advanced in the postseason after sweeping Southwestern Illinois, 8-3 and 9-1, at home Saturday.
Sydney Levan picked up the win in the first game by pitching a solid seven innings with six hits and nine strikeouts.
The Lady Vols were down 2-0 in the first but bounced back to match the Blue Storm going into the second with a double by Rebecca Moffett, a triple by Taja Dedecker, and a double by Taylor Rogers.
Rebecca Moffett had three hits, including a homer, while Lexi Childers and Mikayla Chamness were 2-for-4. Levan also had two hits and Lynnsay Wilson homered in the opener.
Bailey Anderson picked up the win in game two, allowing four hits and one run.
The bats continued to stay hot as Wilson homered again as part of a 3-for-3 performance. Moffett, Dedecker and Chamness were all 2-for-3 and Chamness picked up a home run.
The Lady Vols return to play on Friday at 10 a.m. at Kaskaskia College.
