HERRIN -- The Du Quoin High School softball team was held scoreless through six innings and a late rally came up short in a 4-3 loss at Herrin on Wednesday.
Du Quoin fell to 11-8 with the loss.
Herrin plated two runs in the first, then went up 4-0 in the sixth after Hannah Bramlett's RBI single and a sac fly from Calli Sutcliffe.
The Lady Indians didn't have a hit against Herrin's Ali Paintner until Morgan Bullar's one-out single in the sixth and didn't score until the seventh.
"We just waited to long to make adjustments at the plate," said Du Quoin coach Jason James. "We can not let ourselves continue to get out the same way every time. That is something we will continue to work on."
Chloe Hess led off the seventh with a double, then Avery Waller and Olivia Whitley drew walks. Kaylee Aleshire, Maci McKinnies and Katie Smith all followed with singles, then Bullar walked.
The tying run was stopped at the plate on a fielder's choice and the game ended with the bases loaded.
