Tyra Buss and Amanda Cahill Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

Seniors Tyra Buss and Amanda Cahill have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team, announced by the organization today.
 
The senior duo were two of five players in District 5 and now are eligible for the organization's Academic All-American distinction, which will be announced in March. Cahill is a three-time all-district selection and a 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-American selection who holds a 3.92 GPA in Elementary education. Buss earns her first all-district honors in her career as she holds a 3.3 GPA in physical education. They are one of three pairs on the same Division I program to be named to first teams, with Belmont and Kentucky also placed two student-athletes on the first team.
 
The honors go along with a plethora of awards by Buss and Cahill in their final seasons in Cream and Crimson. Buss is a 2017-18 Preseason Big Ten honoree, Senior CLASS Award Top 10 finalist, Wade Watch and Citizen's Naismith Watch List candidate and has been named to the Big Ten honor roll three times this season. She is averaging a team-high 21.1 points per game to go along with 4.8 assists and 2.0 steals as she shoots 43.8 percent from the floor and 35.3 percent from 3-point range. The Mt. Camel, Ill. native has scored in double figures in 27 of 28 games and has 16 20-plus scoring games as she is coming off back-to-back 30 point performances against Nebraska and at Minnesota. In addition, Buss is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and was a WBCA Academic All-American honorable mention last season.  
 
Cahill is also having a stellar senior campaign, putting up 14.7 points and a team-high 8.2 rebounds as she adds 2.8 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.3 steals per game. She is shooting a team-high 39.3 percent from 3-point range, 47.4 percentage from the floor and 79.3 percent from the free throw line. She became the second player in school history to record 1,700 points and 1,000 rebounds this season and has 10 double-doubles. Her season honors include 2017-18 Preseason All-Big Ten selection, Cheryl Miller Award watch list and Senior CLASS Award nominee. The Clyde, Ohio native is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
 
The Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes who are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions -- NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools, and other affiliations.
