CHAMPAIGN -- Marion senior Michael Cantrell unfortunately had a short stay at the IHSA's Class 2A individual state wrestling tournament.
Cantrell lost his first bout in the 195-pound bracket Thursday and didn't get a chance to wrestle again.
Cantrell's opponent, Woodstock junior Aidan Jacobs, won by a 3-2 decision in a tiebreaker, and then lost by pin in Friday's quarterfinals to Galesburg senior Robert Castellano, thus eliminating Cantrell from the bracket.
Jacobs was also eliminated after moving to the consolation bracket with a third-period pinfall loss to Chicago St. Rita senior Tim Murphy.
Cantrell went to the state tournament three times in a stellar career but had rough luck when competing at Champaign's State Farm Center.
Cantrell finished his senior season with a 34-7 record.
