MJHS boys headed to Class L quarterfinals

MARION -- Every player on the roster, all 15 of them, scored at least two points as the Marion Junior High School boys basketball team cruised to a 75-29 win over Massac County in the championship game of the SIJHSAA Class L Marion Regional on Thursday night.
Marion is now 21-1 this season.
The Wildcats advance to the Class L state quarterfinals on Saturday, Feb. 10, at Rend Lake College. Marion plays in the fourth game of the day at approximately 1:15 p.m.
None of those 15 players reached double figures as MJHS jumped out to a 27-4 lead in the first quarter against the Trojans and led 43-10 at halftime.
Isaiah McLorn and Trevor Jackson both had six points in the opening minutes, when Rayzhaun Bardo and Deavon Margrum both added four points. Also scoring in the first quarter were Venson Newsom, DaMareon Cooper and Devyn Wright.
Chase Austin and Jackson both knocked down 3-pointers and Tariq Sanders put in three free throws in the second period to help build the 33-point lead at the break.
Bryson Wilson scored all of his nine points in the third quarter and shared team-high honors with Jackson. Camryn Reeves canned two 3-pointers in the frame and finished with eight along with Bardo.
Quincy Kincaid brought the crowd to life with seven points and Chase Altug buried a triple in the fourth quarter, which was played with a running clock.
McLorn finished with six and both Margrum and Benja Stone had five. Scoring three points were Cooper, Austin, Sanders and Altug, while Newsom, Cima and Wright all had two.
Marion's opponent in the Class L quarterfinals will be the winner of the Mt. Carmel Regional, which holds its semifinals this Saturday with the championship scheduled for Monday night.
