MARION -- The Marion Junior High School boys basketball team opened postseason play Tuesday night with an easy 52-19 win over West Frankfort.
The game was a semifinal of the SIJHSAA Class L Marion Regional. Massac County defeated Harrisburg, 40-25, in the other semifinal.
The Wildcats jumped on West Frankfort quickly and led 17-3 after one quarter, with Rayzhaun Bardo scoring six points and Isaiah McLorn putting in five during those opening minutes.
Venson Newsom dropped in five points, including a 3-pointer, in the second quarter as the lead grew to 32-9 by halftime.
Eight different Marion players scored in the third period, when the lead reached 51-11.
Bardo led all scorers with 10 points, McLorn had nine and Newsom had seven.
Also scoring for Marion were Tariq Sanders (6), Chase Austin (5), Tyler Cima (4), Devyn Wright (4), Deavon Margrum (2), DaMareon Cooper (2), Trevor Jackson (2) and Quincy Kincaid (1).
Marion (20-1) plays Massac for the title on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Class L state tournament at Rend Lake College.
