Alumni Corner: Buss notches 2,000 points for Hoosiers

Tyler Smithpeters -- SIU (Harrisburg HS)
Smithpeters went 3-of-7 from the field and scored eight points in the Salukis' 64-53 win over Northern Iowa Sunday at the SIU Arena
Smithpeters came off the bench, playing 25 minutes and went 2-of-5 from 3-point range and pulled down five rebounds (all defensive), while handing out two assists.
On Wednesday, Smithpeters went 2-for-5 from the floor and scored nine points in the Dawgs' 82-77 win over Indiana State.
Smithpeters finsihed 1-for-3 from behind the line and 4-of-4 from the line, while grabbing three rebounds and handing out one assist in 23 minutes.

Bahari Amaya -- Illinois Springfield (Harrisburg HS)
Amaya scored eight points coming off the bench in Illinois Springfield's 75-58 loss at Maryville last Saturday.
Amaya went 3-for-5 from the field, while knocking down 2-of-4 3-pointers. the Harrisburg native had a rebound and three fouls in 10 minutes of action.

Justin Carpenter -- SEMO (Mt. Carmel HS)
Carpenter had 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting at SEMO knocked off Eastern Illinois 86-74 last Saturday.
Carpenter went 10-of-16 from the field and was 1-of-1 from behind the line. He went 3-of-4 from the foul line and grabbed four rebounds (three offensive) while handing out one assist and coming away with one steal in 30 minutes of action.

Alison Webb -- Lindenwood (Goreville HS)
Webb went 7-for-10 from the field and scored 15 points in the Lynx 69-68 loss to No. 2 nationally ranked Freed-Hardeman University last Saturday.
Webb played 26 minutes and was 1-of-3 from the foul line, while grabbing a team-high eight rebounds (all defensive), while coming away with two steals and one turnover.
Lindenwood was schedule to play at No. 18 Columbia College Thursday in Belleville.

Tyra Buss -- Indiana (Mt. Carmel HS)
Buss scored her 2,000th point in Indiana's 69-65 win at Michigan State over the weekend, becoming the sixth Hoosier player ever to reach the career milestone.
Buss led the way with 28 points on 11-of-19 shooting and 5-of-7 from 3-point range. Buss went 1-or-2 from the foul line and dished out seven assists as IU picked up its first victory in East Lansing since 2009-10.
On Wednesday, Buss had a team-high 27 points in the Hoosiers' 69-55 win over Wisconsin.
Buss went 11-for-20 from the field and 3-of-8 from lone range, while knocking down a pair of free throws. The Mt. Carmel All-Star grabbed four rebounds (defensive) and handed out four assists, to go along with, four turnovers and one steal.
Buss now has 2,047 career points and notched her 43rd game scoring 20 or more points in her career.

Lindsey Murray -- Ole Miss (Harrisburg HS)
Murray finished in a tie for third and had a season-best 4.07m (13-feet-04.25) in the pole vault last weekend when Ole Miss took part in the Vanderbilt Invite in Nashville, Tenn.
Murray and the Rebels are scheduled to compete in the Razorback Invite this weekend in Fayetteville, Ark.

Erin Lukens --  Milliken (Herrin HS)
Lukens won the 300 meters in a school record time of 42.26 for the Big Blue at the Monmouth Indoor Invitational over the weekend.
Last week at the Towson Tiger Invite held at the Armory Track in New York City, Lukens was 10th in the 400 meters, finishing with a time of 59.84.

Isaac Ingram -- SIU (Harrisburg HS)
Ingram won the men's weight throw on day one of the Vanderbilt Invitational Friday night in Nashville, Tenn.
The Harrisburg native threw a lifetime-best 70'-3.50" (21.42m) Friday to win the event for the third-straight meet. His mark moves him up to fourth on SIU's all-time list as he became the fourth Saluki to throw the weight 70-plus feet.
Ingram was also last week's MVC Field Athlete of the Week.

Sam Sikon -- SIU (Carbondale HS)
Sikon set a lifetime-best by a foot with a throw if 57-feet-3.50 in the shot put over the weekend at the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. Sikon placed sixth in the event as the Salukis claimed four of the top-10 spots.

Payton Price -- McKendree (Eldorado HS)
Former Eldorado standout Payton Price was named to the President's List at McKendree University after maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
Price, who was redshirted as a freshman this past season, was an All-State and Black Diamond Conference MVP in 2016 at Eldorado High School.
