MARION -- The Marion High School wrestling team celebrated Senior Night with a 54-17 win over Herrin on Tuesday at Cuss Wilson Gymnasium.
The shorthanded Tigers gave up six forfeits (36 points) and another weight class was double-forfeited in the match.
The first actual varsity bout on the mat was the most entertaining of the night as Marion senior Kasolon King was subbed in to face Herrin's Frank Mannie in the heavyweight slot.
King nearly pinned Mannie twice, but ultimately Mannie built up enough points for a 12-9 victory as both wrestlers were visibly exhausted to say the least.
King was one of five Marion seniors honored on the night, along with JoeAbe Eroh, Michael Cantrell, Michael Cerv and Rohan Cook.
Cerv wrestled in a JV match and won, while Eroh was the one subbed out for King at heavyweight. Cantrell took a forfeit at 195 and Cook notched a first-period pin at 182.
Also winning bouts for Marion were Landon White with a pin at 132 and River Flute also with a pinfall at 160.
Herrin posted wins in four weight classes.
Marion is scheduled to wrestle at Harrisburg on Thursay and travel to Olney for a duals tournament on Saturday.
The following week, Marion wrestles at Carbondale in the first round of the South Seven Duals, then hosts the rest of the matches on Jan. 27 at the Health Education Center.
