SESSER - The Sesser-Valier Red Devils boys' basketball team won a pair of Black Diamond Conference games this past week, defeating arch rival, Christopher, 74-61, and Johnston City, 79-58.

In the win over the Bearcats Friday, Sesser-Valier broke free from a 13-13 tie after one period of play and 31-30 halftime lead to outscore Christopher 26-14 in the third quarter to take command of the game.

On Friday night, the Red Devils made the 8 mile ride down 148 to take on the Christopher Bearcats.

"Our effort tonight was very good. We struggled a bit early on offensively. Our defense was the key to the second half and led to some turnovers and easy buckets," said Red Devils head coach Shane Garner. "Addison Page and Tyler Winchester shot the ball very well in the second half. Our scoring was well distributed again, which is exactly what we are after."

S-V had three player s in double figures with Lukas Gunter leading the way with 19 points. Page followed with 16 points and Tyler Winchester had 15. Four other Red Devils also scored in the contest: Rock (9), Launius (8), J. Gunter (4), and Boles (4).

Earlier last week, the Red Devils jumped out to a 17-point halftime lead (42-25) against the JC Indians and never looked back in posting a victory.

Garner said he was pleased with his team's performance.

"We played with a lot of energy tonight," he said. "We came out and set the tempo early and tried to use it to our advantage. We were able to hit some shots early and convert points off of turnovers."

Winchester led the way for the Devils with 24 points. Also scoring in double figures were Lukas Gunter, Joshua Gunter, and Seth Boles with 10 points each.

Rounding out the scoring were Addison Page (8), Preston Launius (7), Peyton Rock (6), and Eli Gunter (4).

The Red Devils were to play another conference match last night (Tuesday) when they traveled to Vienna to take on the Eagles.

It will be the last contest for the team before playing host to its own Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament next week.
